(female review) I had never installed a winch before. Just knew I really wanted one as I am so tired of pulling the anchor full of weeds and muck up again and again to change fishing spots, playing or anything. I’m a problem solver and can take on projects that most R16;women’ don217;t…(heads up). It took me about two hours to figure out placement of the winch and to mount the winch and roller davit. Be sure the roller davit is mounted to the very edge of the boat metal trim as you can so that the wheel/roller with the rope truly overhangs the side of the boat. You do not want the rope to rub on the boat (obviously) and want to give as much room as feasible to pull the anchor up without getting stuck on something (i.e. the pontoon water deflector ).

There was another two hours in running the wires (bought plastic cord protector to run through the toons R11;like drain tile but slit the whole way down and much thinner). Great investment/extra time as a precaution to avoid future issues.

Our toon is 24 feet. I mounted the winch on the front of the deck. The batteries are in the far back (pop up area). So I did have to buy extra wire. Instructions recommend 12 gage or bigger. I did go with that to avoid issues/fire risk.

Not a quick install but no issues.

Use: LOVE the quick drop feature. FYI- after quick drop, you let the line drag to the desired length for the anchor to grab, then hit the up button quick to stop the line from pulling out and keep the boat in place.

Bought the extra remote to mount to the dash. EASY connect to the original winch electrical . Very nice and convenient when taking the kids fishing as the only adult.

Another suggestion is to mount the winch on the right side (corner) so that you (driver) can look over the side to see location/how high the anchor is without having to get up and walk around (keeping control of the boat).

We have only had the winch installed for two weeks (two weekend uses –will follow up on this review as time passes). Happy boating.
