To be honest, I really liked the way Ducati put the plate holder on the curved bar around the wheel. It matched the trellis frame very well. Unfortunately it was added weight and I really wanted to show off the 240mm rear tire. GRRRRR!!!!I looked at my options and there were really only two out there, this one and the evotech. I wasnt really feeling the Evotech because of how much it cost for such a silly little thing. I had used Competition Werkes tail tidy's on my previous bikes and I also have their exhaust on this bike so I figured why not try it again.
Install was decently easy but I wish they included some sort of template for drilling. It wasnt easy to get centered on the grab bar and I wasnt low enough so I had to drill twice. The materials themselves are a bit cheap as well and I couldnt see where my $100 went. Install wasnt so bad and I had everything working in about an hour or so.
I liked the look of it and I will say it cleaned up the rear of the bike a lot. One of the deciding factors on this part was that it had a hinge on it so you could still get to the keyhole for the seat. Unfortunately, this is also its downfall. On my last ride, my buddy was behind me and he said he could see my plate flapping up and down on every bump. Guess the spring isnt strong enough and I am going to figure out how to put something there to make it more solid.
Upon inspection after this ride, I noticed that the side of the plate was scraping the taillight. I also looked behind the plate and there are two little metal prongs that seem to keep the plate off the underside of the bike. Well since the plate was bouncing on the spring, those prongs were digging into the underside. I ended up cutting my license plate down so that it didnt hit the light anymore and I got tiny little rubber nipples and put them on the metal prongs.
Last complaint is the color. Why did they leave this silver instead of anodizying it black? It looks out of place under the black tail. I ended up spraying mine black so that it looked a little less obvious.
While this product does what its supposed to do, I would consider modifying it before install. For half the price of the Evotech or Rizoma or whatever, it does what its supposed to do. Could you make your own for a lot less? More than likely.
