Slipstreamer SS-32 Falcon Windshield - 20in. - Clear SS-32-20C Review

Take care when selecting the proper model for you bike. I initially ordered a version of the shield for tapered forks (the 'CT' version), owing to an error in the description and the compatibility list. I had to return it in exchange for the one on this page.

The shield is thick, clear, and appears well-made. It is pretty darn tall. I performed a flawless installation without assistance, so let me offer a few tips on how to do that.

Your first step will be applying the chrome frame plating to the front of the shield. As it says, don't tighten up the hardware too much. This part is easy. Be sure to protect your new shield against scratches as you work.

Next, you'll need to set up the brackets on your fork tubs. You'll need to determine whether to use any of the supplied rubber gasket; you'll have a thin and thick version to choose from. I needed a single layer of the thin for each tube. I first trimmed this sheet to fit precisely around the tube. I then wrapped it around the tube and used cellophane tape to hold it in place. Ditto for the other fork. Check the vertical position on the forks and adjust as necessary.

Now I could put the chrome brackets in place; I put the 3 sets of bolts/washers/nuts on each bracket set and tightened gradually and evenly, enough so that each bracket would stay firmly put, but still keeping things loose enough to be able to adjust the alignment of each bracket. Tighten just enough that you know that these brackets aren't going to shift as you put on the windshield. You may be wondering how you're going to get the windshield on now that you've put the bracket bolts in, but I'll explain in a moment.

Now that the brackets are on and aligned, take a measurement of the space between the two brackets, and use this to align the chrome hinges onto the windshield frame assembly; tighten up, but not too much.

Now you're ready to put the windshield on. Drape a cloth over your handlebars and mirrors, as you'll be initially be resting the shield against this. Open up the topmost bolt on each of your fork brackets, and put these on the ground directly under the spot where they will be used. Now grasp your shield and lay it over your handlebars/mirrors, aligning up the bracket holes. Holding the shield in place with one hand, reach down and pick up one set of bolt/washers/nut and put it in place; do the same for the other side. The worst part is over. Tighten each bolt just enough to keep things in place.

Now open the middle set of bolts, lift the top of the shield from your handlebars, and align that middle set of holes. Put the bolts back on. Now do the same with the bottom set of bolts.

Now gradually tighten everything up as you set your final alignment. Presto, no help needed!
